Contribute To Lightning Research
From Day One.
Turn storm curiosity into usable research. Capture lightning moments, keep a private library you control, and contribute selected moments to research only when you decide. Free includes the full capture workflow and the research submission option. Supporter plans add more room and longer continuity while helping keep storage, uptime, and careful improvements strong for everyone.
This page helps you choose the level that fits how often you capture, how long you want continuity, and whether you are participating on your own or for a group.
Free starts the full workflow. Supporter adds more room and longer continuity. Institutional creates a path for teams that need governance.
Levels Built Around How You Participate.
All levels begin with the same privacy first workflow. The difference is how much room, continuity, and coordination you need once you start building a storm record.
Choose Free for individual participation, Supporter for growing libraries and more room over time, or Institutional for programs that need governance and coordination.

Why Supporter Tiers Exist
This initiative is built so real participation can stay free. Supporter tiers exist to keep that open path available while libraries grow and reliability needs rise.
Free is not a preview. It is the real starting point for private storm observation, organization, and optional research contribution when you choose. You do not need to be a scientist to participate carefully.
Supporter membership helps keep storage, uptime, and careful improvements steady as the archive grows. In return, supporters get more room and longer continuity for libraries they plan to keep building.
-
Personal value: keep a private storm record you can revisit, search, and understand over time.
- Contribution value: thoughtful submissions help build a stronger evidence base over time without forcing public exposure.
- Supporter meaning: more room and longer continuity help active observers while support helps keep the system steady.
- Institutional path: institutional access creates a path for schools, labs, clubs, and field teams that need governance.
Whether you stay free or become a supporter, the workflow starts the same way: capture privately, organize clearly, and decide over time what to keep private, what to share by link, and what to submit for research.
Sharing And Safety
One system. Two separate decisions. Research submission lets you contribute selected moments to research when you choose. When you share, you send private links only to people you choose; those links expire after a set period, and safeguards built into the system keep sharing responsible and reduce misuse.
Sharing Track
Sharing is for people you choose. It is separate from research submission and never becomes a public feed.
- Outside your account, sharing happens only through private links.
- There is no public feed and no public publish directory.
- Links expire automatically by design. Free links last 7 days. Supporter links last 30 days.
- Keep everything private unless you choose to share it.
Research Submission Track
Submitting for research is not public sharing. It is a separate opt in step for selected moments you want to contribute.
- Select the moments you want to contribute to research.
- Submission is always your choice and happens only when you decide.
- You can contribute to research without creating a public post or directory entry.
- Keep sharing decisions and research decisions separate so control stays clear.
Trust And Integrity
Controlled sharing helps protect people and preserve research integrity.
- Safety gates help reduce misuse and keep sharing responsible.
- The system is designed for personal use and research use, not open public posting.
- Commercial licensing requires prior approval.
- When in doubt, keep links private and submit carefully.
Clear Answers Before You Choose
These are the questions people tend to ask right before they decide whether to stay free, support the work, or request institutional access.
Can free users still contribute to research?
Yes. Free includes the full private workflow and the research submission option. Submission stays opt in and happens only when you decide.
Is my storm library private?
Your library is private by default. Sharing uses private links only, and there is no public feed or public directory.
What changes when I become a Supporter?
Supporter adds more room and longer continuity for growing libraries while helping sustain storage, uptime, and careful improvements.
Billing and cancellation
- When you choose a paid plan, billing is handled by a secure payment processor (a separate company).
- You can manage or cancel through the processor billing controls.
- We do not store full payment card details.
Support is optional and always under your control.
